Reading focus

First trace thread, clothing, sewing, and return as a sequence of care and worry; then see how grass and spring sunlight turn that relationship into a metaphor of unrepayable care.

01

Enter the scene

Before departure, a mother sews thread into the traveler's clothing. Repeated stitches and worry about a late return become the closing grass-and-sunlight metaphor.

02

Language focus

The reduplications mìmi and chíchí intensify action and delay; the grass heart and spring sunlight must be read as metaphor rather than new literal objects in the room.

03

After-reading practice

Sort the six lines into object, action, worry, and metaphor, cite the words for each layer, and explain how the closing couplet answers the first four lines.
